Wasteland Warfare is the epic soundtrack to a fantasy film that doesn't yet exist. Each song tells its own story – sometimes as a metaphorical narrative, sometimes as a direct excursion into pre-existing post-apocalyptic worlds such as Metro 2033 or Mad Max. Mythological dooms such as the Norse Ragnarök also find their place in the lyrics. Linguistically, this complexity is underlined by the use of English, German, Old Norse and Russian lyrics – always in keeping with the world being narrated.
Musically, the album marks a clear break with its predecessor “Dystopia”. Instead of synthetic Industrial sounds, the focus is now on opulent, symphonic arrangements. The basis of each track is a fully arranged orchestra - choirs often take over central vocal lines. Unlike typical metal albums, the orchestra was not composed here to complement the guitars, but the other way around: the band instruments were deliberately embedded afterwards. This approach gives “Wasteland Warfare” an extraordinary density of sound and a cinematic atmosphere. The use of Asian, Arabic and Nordic instruments also gives some songs an immersive sound that is rather atypical for metal.
It was particularly important to us to set ourselves apart from the usual metal production standard. Wasteland Warfare is not just a series of songs – it is an acoustic portal into a surreal, fantastic world. The warm, classical guitar sound contrasts with today's often over-compressed productions. Musical influences can be found in Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, Dimmu Borgir and Nightwish.
We didn't want to reinvent the wheel, but rather combine the best of several metal genres: symphonic elements meet growls, while influences from Black Metal, Death Metal and Industrial are subtly woven into the drums and bass.
Wasteland Warfare was produced by Wolves of War themselves. The mixing was done by Kevin Heutmann (mixing engineer of Brazing Bull and Royal Remains). The mastering was done by Nikita Kamprad (Der Weg einer Freiheit). Wasteland Warfare was released on 29.08.2025 without the support of a label.
